People have some strong feelings about you. I don’t. For some reason, I’m neither foaming at the mouth with hate or drooling with admiration. I do respect you. I am quite excited at the idea of voting for a woman for president. But there are a great many things that anger, frustrate, and concern me as a black woman that I don’t think you are considering fully.
I want to give you the benefit of the doubt on this although I know you are a brilliant woman and have hired equally brilliant staff. The chances are, some of these things have come up, but I want to share with you my thoughts about things like mass incarceration, welfare reform, police brutality with impunity, the Democratic Party platform, and how feminism looks a bit different for me.
I will only speak from my personal perspective. I will mostly use “I” because I can’t pretend to speak for all black women. But I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in many of my opinions and analyses.
I hope you run across this and choose to consider some of it.
Sincerely and with great anticipation,
